African Inventors

January 24, 2013
Tony Smith is the Cameroonian inventor of the "Limitless Re I act" tablet (touchpad). He is currently based in the United States, in Seattle, where he launched, in 2011, his company Limitless Electronics.

The tablet was designed by Tony Smith and is manufactured in China. Yet, there is already what he calls a Hybrid Factory in Cameroon with a production capacity of about 1,000 units per month. This factory is small in size and personnel and can only execute a few tasks on the value chain such as: assembling, testing, operating system programming, etc. The inventor asserts that the device can be customized only through this Hybrid Factory, for the moment. What can be customized are: the tablet's color, the operating system (Android or Ubuntu), the 5 or 8 megapixels camera, etc. However, Tony Smith is planning to build a more extensive network of factories in Africa for devices like tablets, phones and televisions.

These are some of the product's characteristics: built-in 3G/GPRS/EDGE, 7 inch LED screen, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or Ubuntu Phone operating systems, Voice dialing, video calling, GPS, etc.

Limitless Electronics is also working on the digitization and development of content for the African school system. Tony Smith is trying to figure out how to equip African schoolchildren with tablets that are affordable and a good fit for education.

Tony Smith has also conceived a mobile phone (the Fleet - R) which is dust, shock and water resistant.
